My account here is pending approval so it won't let me use the name Moonshadow to post here.
Anyway this is reposted from the Sisters of Elune Realm forums and is a very short story about Moonshadow's arrival on the version of Azeroth where she now resides. It's an attempt at an IC explanation of her transfer from a different RP server to SoE. I'm not much of a writer, so forgive the brevity of this post.
The Night Elf opened her eyes and looked around, she found herself on the edge of a tiny pond in Darnassus, at least that's what it looked like. Scattered around her was a plethora of equipment, including several technological gizmos that looked of Gnomish origin, she shook her head and corrected herself mentally, 'Not Gnomish, Goblin.' She then set to gathering the items and reflexively attaching them to her person, all the while seeming bewildered that she understood what each item was and what it was for. Lastly she pulled on a pair of complex looking goggles that had been dangling around her neck and looked around again.
The world was suddenly tinged with aquamarine, almost as if she were underwater as data began streaming in from the goggles HUD system: ...Scanning...Recalibrating for space-time differential...Recalibration complete...All systems nominal...
Space time differential?! Where was she? Taking a deep breath she stood up and cast another glance around, it looked like Darnassus, it sounded like Darnassus, she inhaled deeply through her nose, it even smelled like Darnassus. Things were subtly different, faces of guards, merchants and even some of the denizens who she remembered from before were all slightly dissimilar from her, albeit fuzzy, recollections.
Without warning, the world started spinning around her and she sat back down with a tooth jarring -thud- that caused her to bite her tongue hard enough to make it bleed. She blinked a few times, removed her goggles and just tried to cope with the overwhelming dizziness she felt until it passed. As her vertigo finally subsided, brief flickers of what had led her to this predicament flashed one by one through her mind.
She had been using a goblin made translocation device in Booty Bay. There was a thunderstorm, and even though the goblin operating the device tried to warn her it was dangerous, she ignore him and stepped onto the platform anyway. As she was about to beam out, there was a flash of lightning, and deafening explosion and then, she was here. Wherever here was.
She moaned softly, hugged her knees, and rocked back and forth as panic began to set in. The pieces of the puzzle were now falling into place within her mind, and it wasn't a pretty picture. This was her fault. Whatever had happened to her during that storm was due to her carelessness, or arrogance or maybe both. Somewhere deep down she knew it was the latter, whoever she was or had been, was not a careful person, she loved risk and had a devil-may-care attitude which had apparently finally caught up with her in a very big way.
Her name eluded her, she could see faces in her mind's eye of those she left behind but the details of them were blurry, and their names, like her own, simply a blank spot in her memory. A myriad questions filled her brain, where was here? Who had she left behind? And most importantly how would she get back? As all this came crashing down around her, she began to cry. With tear blurred vision she peered up at the night sky and full moon then prayed. She called out to the Goddess Elune for what felt like for the first time in her life, asking for guidance and help.
Perhaps in answer to her prayers or simply due to her blurry eyesight, she thought she saw sudden shadow passed in front of the moon. And within the shadow's blackness for the briefest of moments she saw another night elf, a beautiful woman, dressed in a flowing gown of black gossamer and in that instant, she knew her name.
It was Moonshadow.
“Moonshadow.”, she said it aloud to hear it for herself and smiled through the tears, though she knew not if it was her real name or simply inspired by the brief vision she had just witnessed. It was a fine name and it suited her. At the very least it gave her sense of identity and that was, for Moonshadow, at least a start.
