((A bit rushed I know, though all of this excluding the first paragraph was actually roleplayed out. Work in Progress? ))
As humble a beginning as one could imagine as a young girl's impoverished parents, in their mercy, hand a starving child over to the Stormwind orphanage, never to see her again.
There a young girl grows and begins to frighten the matron with odd, sometimes violent tendencies. Quickly she isolates herself from the others, living her childhood in seclusion. As years pass and no one to adopt her she eventually leaves on her own to work in a quiet Abby. It's here at last events she had dreamed of take place.
Yanking a weed from a small garden and grumbling to herself in protest to mundane chores, the young girl ceases pauses suddenly in a motionless fright, feeling a terrible gaze upon her. She turns and scans the grassy area with a penetrating stare, holding her breath to remain motionless. As she turns back around she falls on her rear with a frightened yelp, seeing a figure leaning over her garden, casually inspecting the plants and ignoring the confused girl as if suddenly and silently appearing behind people were a common occurrence.
The startled girl breaks the silence. "Wha..who are you?"
The strange figure stands up straight in the sunlight, revealing herself to be an imposing woman, leather-clad and toned short, clean hair and a hard, scrutinizing gaze, aimed at the girl as she speaks.
"This is the worst garden I've ever seen. Look, these two plants are dead and the rest will be in a week!"
"I know that! I've no talent for keeping things alive." She spouts in harsh rebuttal, shaking and fidgeting as she analyzes the strange woman.
"Oh..I think you have talent of another sort." The woman's harsh demeanor quickly shifts to a disarming smile, dazzling the young girl. "I've been..scouting..for potential candidates you might say and you..have piqued my interest. Tell me, how would you like to rid yourself of this depressing garden and come with me?"
From the moment she saw the older woman's grin she knew this person was here to rescue her. She wanted to be saved from a meaningless life, transported into adventure and danger.
With an entranced tone she responds simply. "Sure."
"Then you are now my apprentice. Address me accordingly." The woman's smile instantly grows dark as she turns, motioning the girl to follow. What follows is a journey north, seeing by foot what awaits away from civilization in the Eastern Kingdoms. What was supposed to be thrilling adventure and heroic deeds were brutal exterminations and desperate fights for survival. What was supposed to be a kind and understanding mentor was a harsh and fanatical instructor, relentlessly determined to groom the girl into weapon to fight with her personal crusade against the undead Scourge.
Armed with quality weapons and armor, trained to be pitiless, encouraged to teach herself to wield the light with rigorous study. The young girl was learning quickly. Despite the harshness of her training, the student had begun to grow fond of her teacher, bursting with a zealous loyalty and eagerness, to the point where she could hardly sit still without an order.
As her training nears it's peak, her teacher revealed plans in the form of a list of several Scourge strongholds in the Plaguelands. No intentions were spoken, but it was clear she meant to assault them.
Shortly after, before the completion of her training, the teacher vanished without warning. After days hesitation, paranoia, and confusion she decides in naive confidence she must be ready to attack the Scourge alone. At first she was met with success, swashing through the scourge minions as if they were butter.
Her first defeat against the higher rank of undead was a grueling setback. The start of many to come. Failure after failure, escape after narrow escape, still failing to grasp the hopelessness of her task. Living off whatever edible scraps she could find in the plagued wasteland she continued her futile assault, using every different tactic she'd been taught and inventing new ones when those ran out. Days became weeks, weeks into months, every moment gnawing away at a desperate mind.
Questions and doubts started ringing in her mind, eventually losing sight of her goal completely to turn to aimless wandering. Lost in despair, complaining and speaking to herself as she passes through an old graveyard, pausing to stare at large grave marking an important figure.
"The 'ell are you?" She squints with a vicious stare at the headstone as she starts to read. "Edward? I didn't ask your name! Like I would want to know something like that! Who do you think you are, Mr. Edward? Huh?!" She taps a foot with an angry twitch as she reads further, barking out furiously before she's able to finish reading. "Why don't you just shut up! You people...always talking but you never shut up! Saying things like... 'Let me tell you something' or 'I'll just say this'. Well you're DEAD now! So SHUT UP!" The young girl stares at the stone with clenched teeth, panting furiously for a minutes.
"What kind of name is Edward anyway? I bet your parents hated you." A few more minutes pass as she paces back and forth, darting her eyes back to the headstone as if insulted.
"I didn't say it was a bad name..it just doesn't suit you. I mean what were your parents thinking? Naming a CORPSE Edward? Morons!"
An hour flows by as she sits down, facing away from the headstone, brooding. She slowly tilts her head back, looking at the grave with the corner of her eye, the anger in her face fading, instead shifting into a devious grin.
"Say.. you wouldn't mind if I borrowed it would you? The name I mean. Because well, you won't be needing anymore now won't you? Myaahahahaha!" She turns to face the stone with a widening grin.
"I promise I'll give it back later of course so, may I? Yes?! HAAH! I had my fingers crossed the whole time! How does it feel to be a sucker with no name? Pretty bad I bet. So long!"
A few hours of gleeful prancing through the plagued fields reveals a small encampment filled with a fresh sight. Living, breathing members of the Alliance!
A crooked smile forms, followed by an excited shriek.
"My pleasure to meet you all! My name is Edward."
