Before the coming of the Titans, in the misty dawn of Azeroth, the proto-dragons roamed the northern wilderness. For committing a terrible crime against his race, the proto-drake Ptah was sentenced to live among mortals until one of his lineage could wash away the drake's shame by becoming a true Hero. The nature of Ptah's transgression remains a sacred mystery. It is not for mortals to know what behavior is forbidden for dragonkind. The sole boon granted to the disgraced drake was the opportunity to choose which race to manifest within. For centuries he hung in limbo, little more than a powerless shade waiting in the spirit world, as Azeroth faced many upheavals and developed into something wildly strange and new. Finally, he chose to take the form of one of the fledgling children of the stars, and courted a handmaiden of their queen to be his consort.
After the destruction of the Well of the Eternity, the remnants of the Highborne took refuge in their hallowed city. The lethargic populace of Eldre’thalas whiled away thousands of years in disillusionment and complacency within their walls, siphoning energy from a member of the same force that had destroyed their civilization.
Illista, Ptah's consort, was one of the first of the former inner circle of Queen Azshara to grow suspicious about the new source of magic and immortality. Guided by Ptah, she had fled from the queen’s side when the first tendrils of demonic influence began to creep into Azeroth through the portal into the Great Beyond, and Illista watched pale and powerless from a distance as corruption consumed the world she had known.
Now she felt the same familiar foreboding that had accompanied the first probing of the Burning Legion in the sanctuary of Eldre’thalas.
When her husband vanished and she noticed a strange green hue in her eyes, her investigation took on a sense of fevered urgency. She uncovered the terrible secret that the prince and his loyalists had been keeping from her and the rest of the Highborne.
Sickened by the knowledge that her addiction to magic had been sated by the unwilling sacrifice of the being she loved most, Illista fled, despite her delicate condition. Vengeful Shen'dralar assassins pursued her mercilessly through forests and mountains, over rivers and into deep caverns. The twin forces of hatred towards those who had deceived her, and hope for the possibility of retribution through her unborn child, kept Illista alive and running.
The former handmaiden of Queen Azshara finally found refuge in the lush jungle of Un’Goro Crater, the God Lands. Watched over by gentle earth spirits, she gave birth to Isledon. She raised her son to be powerful and kind, and above all, to rail against wickedness in every form with all of his might.
