The elfs head was down, her face hidden on each side by her long ocean green hair. There was little wind in the Glade to touch it, so it hung limply adding to her already downtrodden countenance. Her shoulders were rolled forward, and her hands lay listlessly within her lap in the hammock of her leather kilt. Tears on her cheeks twinkled with as much beauty as the waters in Lake Elune'ara.
She shuddered and sniffled with a staggered breath recounting the events which had transpired to draw her home.
Battle gear had dawned her small frame not hours earlier, and a hopeful excited flutter danced within her heart. She had ended up in a group heading toward a heroic battle in the Violet Hold. She rather enjoyed the daily struggle there, relishing the fast pace and exciting atmosphere...never knowing what was going to happen next.
As it turned out, there was an open seat within the group, and with no family members awake at the time she turned to her love to ask him for his help.
She knew since waking at least an hour or two ago, he had been awake and mucking around in the frozen lands of Dun Morogh. Surely he would come to help her, and make her stronger with his presence. He was one she relied on above so many others and her heart swelled with love at the mere thought of him.
Upon contacting him her heart now almost filled to bursting with the anticipation of fighting beside him once more- since they had not for some days now, she called to his mind and asked if he'd like to come help, that there was room.
No. Was his reply. He explained he was helping someone else and had given his word. He could not break it. Glumly she accepted the answer, until she found him still within the starting lands, in Gnomeragen and then the Deadmines. As it turned out the one he was helping was draenei woman, who was of her 80th season. He had spent hours helping her...And that knowledge combined with the pain and death her group had to endure shattered her heart, and her trust.
While for the most part the battle within the Hold went well, it was not flawless. People fell, she...had fallen...struggling to stand and keep things together she could not stop thinking about how betrayed she felt, and how alone.
She could respect he had given his word and didn't wish to break it....But surely the woman he was helping would have released him of his word had he asked? But he never did.
And so the pain remained a bitter poison eating away at her as the battle continued, and afterward.
Her foggy vision swayed to her badly scared arms and hands laughing harshly at her, reminding her of her past and how she had failed her family. Somewhere along the way, she decided she must have failed him too...For him to abandon her in that place, helping someone who could have very easily helped themselves.
I gave her my word.
His voice was still strong in her ears bringing a fresh round of tears flowing down her freckled cheeks.
She had given her word once too, when she was mated to her husband in the eyes of Keeper Remulos. That she would always be by his side and never let any harm befall him. On her life she swore this as she slipped the binding vine over his head, joining them together as one. The smell of the moon lilies still haunted her to this day.
But she broke her solemn vow to him, and to her daughter the day she wasn't able to save them. She had died that day, and was later reborn anew in Moonglade as a druid.
But surely, as she was told that was beyond her control to be there for her mate when he needed her... It was not the same as being denied by Raz. There was no fire, there was not even any danger to him or his lady friend...But there had been for her.
Another sob wracked at her body.
She must have failed somewhere to have deserved being sent in there without him by her side.
Upturning her face she reached her trembling hands toward the hazy sky and prayed to Elune for forgiveness. Just as she had done for many many years following the fire.
She would atone, somehow. She had to.
Her hands remained open to the sky until her arms went numb and were forced to fall down to her sides. With her head bowed she cried openly begging Elune to wash away her pain and forgive her yet again for whatever wrongs she had done.
It was then she heard footsteps behind her. Warily she glanced over her shoulder to meet the deep brown eyes of a speckled fawn. They regarded her with such love and trust it made Shari hug her arms to her chest.
"Look mother! Look!" the excited plea of a child touched her ears making her turn to see her daughter, Jewel'rhea'nae, prancing through the leaves chasing behind a less then concerned deer, "I'ma fawn! i'ma fawn! See?!"
Krae'sharel wrapped his arms about his mate from behind and kissed her ear, his voice a loving murmur, "Moonglade will always be home, always be safe." His amber eyes laughed as he watched his daughter galloping around her snow white hair tussling about her rosy cheeks. "Maybe one day she will return as a fawn hmm?" His throaty chuckle echoed in her ear making her purr with contentment.
"Mother do you see!"
The voice fades...
The fawn pressed her wide ears forward and took another step closer lowering her head, her wet black nose twitching at Shari's scent.
"Jewel..." The name was barely a whisper.
And then the fawn was in her arms, its front legs draped over hers, the small head resting within her lap as it lay down.
Tears were streaming down Shari'adune's cheeks as she turned her face upward again lavishing many thanks to Elune for this most precious gift.
Somehow, she would be alright.
She shuddered and sniffled with a staggered breath recounting the events which had transpired to draw her home.
