It was a long shot, and she knew it.
He had told her quite plainly that he wanted all or nothing.
Her breath fluttered with a controlled sob and she swallowed it down. Her eyes darted around the quiet paths of Darnassus, she didn't want anyone, even the sentinels seeing her pain.
Put on a brave face Shari...Put on a brave face.
Turning the corner around the large tree that housed the bank on her way to the mailbox she stopped dead in her tracks, her delicate little hand flying to touch the area between her collar bones.
Standing near the mail box she saw a tall, dark skinned white haired male elf. His back was to her.
The silent resolve she had been trying to build fell away in an instant and she was left covering her maddeningly fluttering heart as if it were a little bird trapped inside her, and the slightest breeze would set it free.
Was it him? Her mind raced with confliction. She yearned so badly for it to be him, and yet was so afraid it would be at the same time.
She still loved him, as much as the bright Moon above...Eune forgive her she still cared. Her silvery-gold flecked eyes began to well up with tears as her mind re-counted their last conversation...
"But i l-love you still so very much... Sir i want us to start over as very good friends, not tainted by what has happened. Fresh and new and see how it goes." she had pleaded with hopeful eyes.
His eyes were resolute as he had gazed down on her tear stained face, "i can't do that Shari. You're killing me. Can't you see i want to change? i need you? I couldn't bare to be beside you as only a friend. i want you back as my lover. It has to be all or nothing."
"Then...You will have nothing, sir. May the stars guide you, i love you."
The memory was shattered the moment the elf at the mailbox turned around and she met not with the face of her Cherished One, but a stranger who smiled at her and nodded kindly as he passed by.
Shari tried to swallow past the knot in her throat as she wondered fleetingly if he ever thought about her anymore, if he ever really had cared to begin with.
Before she got to the mailbox, she turned away. She knew she'd find nothing.
