Jadren is the last Daughter of the House of Belin, a prominent and influential noble family. The men in the family traditionally become paladins, and the women become mages. Music is an important part of the family’s heritage, and both sexes are trained as musicians or dancers. The family was once large and widespread, but several wars and massive upheaval left only Jadren’s parents and her brother Marcus. All of the Belin fortune was therefore the shared inheritance of the siblings. The ancestral home of the House of Belin was known as Caer Illium.
Jadren’s family’s wealth afforded her private tutors, and she proved a deft student. Towards the end of her training, she stumbled across a tome hidden away in the underground family vault. The tome was a discourse on fel magic, and the maiden Jadren was fascinated. Naturally ambitious, she had secretly dreamed of the ultimate power: the defiance of death. She was convinced that fel magic would help her accomplish her dark purpose, and she began to study it in subterfuge. Through her arts she learned of the existence of a dark lord, who could grant her immortality in exchange for her free will.
The arrogant young warlock thought she would easily be able to throw off the Lich King’s control once she been transformed into a Death Knight. Her hubris was her undoing and she remained a mindless drone for three long years. During her service to the Lich King, she was assigned to a group of assassins, sent to destabilize the Horde and Alliance by taking out important families in their societies. Thus did Jadren unwittingly murder her mother and father in their beds, and then burned her family estate to the ground. Her brother was nowhere to be found and his life was spared that night.
When the Lich King’s hold was broken, Jadren’s free will was restored, and her grief overwhelmed her. She slipped into madness and wandered the world. When her senses returned she found herself on the shattered remains of an alien world, living in a village populated by mushroom men. To her horror she discovered all her old powers had been destroyed by her transformation. She then earned the trust and exaltation of the sporelings by honing her new powers as she massacred Sporeggar’s enemies. She traveled to some of the nearby communities, picking up information and planning her next move.
Although she was disguised as a bard whenever she entered a settlement, somehow her brother, raving for vengeance, tracked her down and attacked her. Though she tried to subdue him long enough to escape, he would not let off and she was forced to take his life in order to protect herself. She searched his belongings and found a family heirloom that would allow her access to the family vaults, which were still safely hidden beneath the ruins of Caer Illium. She also found a small picture of a woman holding an infant.
While traveling to claim her birthright, she came across three oracles who warned her that a blood curse had been laid upon her. They said the murder of her brother had upset the natural order, and that the balance must be restored. They told her to seek out the woman she had made a widow, and her nephew, the true Son of the House of Belin.
Jadren returned to Azeroth, and has been searching for her sister-in-law and nephew ever since.
