Urgh. Putting this in the OOC because someone contacted me in game and I offered them help, but I seem to have been an idiot in my half-exhausted state and to thereby have incorrectly copied the email address supplied and not friended the character *is wearing a dunce cap*.
So, as I said to you, very-polite-and-friendly-individual-who-contacted-me-and-knows-who-they-are, I would be happy to send you an outline (Khaz's to be precise) and some pointers to help you work on your character description... if I had copied the email address correctly. In the absence of that, I post it here for you. Please, remove the text in the parentheses. They are really just my pointers to try and help grease the wheels of the essay-like description we briefly spoke about.
((Begin with this mostly self-explanatory list. Treat it like a short list.))
Race:
Gender:
Height:
Weight:
Body Type: ((Might add some detail here beyond a one-word descriptor.))
Eye Color: ((If it's not a common one try to explain in detail. Rather than Brown and Green, say Brown with Green strains that almost look like an arrow's fletchings or whatever.))
Hair Color: ((Again, detail if unusual for their race.))
Hair Style:
Hair Texture: ((This is not a bad thing to include, it gives a little more feel to the character.))
Main hand: ((What's their primary hand? It's easiest to match your own since you will be inclined to see your character using the same.))
Skin Color: ((Details if there's something worth noting. i.e. If they're a half breed and got really unlucky they may have spots in their skin of two different colors (non-issue for Tauren I suppose).))
Skin Texture: ((See above))
Motions: ((This is a good one to think about. The short list here since you have the detailed sections below. But, do they stalk, do they glide, do they saunter, amble, stride purposefully, creep, inch, etc. Seeing how a character moves also adds depth to their presence in a room.))
Smell: ((Very good inclusion if your character has a distinct smell. It may very well be they don't, but think about what they're around. Do they enjoy comfort? Perfume? Do they use herbs? Practice alchemy? Engineering? How painfully do they avoid carrying the scent of their work?))
Sound: ((Another good'un to add depth. When they speak is it an average voice? One you wouldn't raise a brow at? Or is there something sinister crawling between each note the voice hits in talking?))
Typical Attire:
Formal Attire:
Body in more detail:
((Here will go the description of your character. Begin with what you think would be the single most eye-catching region of their form. For Khaz it was her face with the myriad piercings and her wicked new scar (close tie to her mechanical hand, but you figure that's at her side and so probably obscured from vision about half the time due to crowds and whatnot).))
((From there follow your character's anatomy or your strongest line of thought. So if you start with the face and have something important to say about the neck, that's a logical place to go. If you start with the face and it flows writing-wise into her foot, so be it. The more comfortable you are with writing the description, the more it will flow to the reader.))
((Draw from the listed out things above. They're there for a reason. Treat it like the framework. Those listed features above can give you a skeleton, this is where you really distinguish this skeleton from the next. Add the claw marks in its bones or the fracture that appears to be very old and never properly healed, etc.))
Motions in more detail:
((Again, seeing how a character moves gives them depth. Try and give a little detail about the topic here. If someone were to spot them when they were at their most casual, what would they see? Would it be the same if they caught them in battle? Ask yourself questions like that. Helps gets the words flowing.))
Typical Possessions of use:
((Typical. Common. What do they always have? What do they often use? I have one answer that applies to damn near every character I've ever met: Hearthstone (though I don't list it on either of my characters). Think about things like that and try and figure out what your character usually has that not necessarily everyone else does as well as things every good adventurer is likely to keep handy.))
Odd companions:
((Do you have any vanity pets your character would not be expected to? If so, this is a good place to list them. Do you have any friends that seem highly unlikely? Again, good place to list them.))
Companions one might expect:
((The crowd you're expected to be found in, or the pets people would see and think 'Now that actually makes sense.'.))
Trophies:
((Things your character takes pride in. It would probably be noticeable if they had a specific weapon that split there smile in a cheshire's grin every time they took it out to wield it in battle. That there's a trophy, for whatever reason. You decide the reason. ^^))
Obviously others are free to use the above as well. In all honesty I'm not even sure it was originally my creation. I probably stole / modeled it after already existing profiles on the site or on other RP sites.
To the very-polite-and-friendly-individual-who-contacted-me-and-knows-who-they-are, please contact me again so I can add you to my friend's list.
Sorry I forgot in the first place. *Removes dunce cap and sets it on a nearby three-legged stool.*
