i wanted to make a topic about the vote to kick option in dungeons., and i guess how most random pug groups are being run now a days.
the way i've seen it, if you're not doing this leet dps, people are going to vote to kick you regardless if the group is moving along smoothly or not.
ill be the first to admit, my DPS sucks hairy yeti balls. however, since it seems most random pugs have people in them who look like they live in a well of valor points, my crappy dps shouldnt be that much of a big deal, since everyone else is more then 'covering' my share.
this isn't a rant about crappy dps being carried through instances.
this is just me wanting to make people aware how unfair it is to be so quick with the vote to kick option.
Most DPS now a days have to wait upward of 40 minutes to get into a dungeon. i know when i get there i'm gonna be trying my best to do whatever i can do. if it's not the best damage, then i'm gonna be best back up whatever... usually helping with crowd control.
i dont think it's fair to people to kick them without a DAMN good reason. if they are being a dick or if they are -obviously- not trying then sure yea, find someone who is willing to try.... but please reconsider before hitting the 'yes' how would you feel if it were you?
i think everyone deserve the chance to try, and to learn, cant do that if no one is willing to bend a little bit and help out. i think it's just being decent, thoughtful, and all that good stuff.
what are everyone else's thoughts on this?

I am one of those people that doesn't vote to kick people. It's just not nice - and I sure as fel don't want people to kick me.
The only exceptions I have are: if a person is being just plain...stupid (I had a moonkin in bear form sign up as the tank for one of my dungeons. He would pull a whole bunch of guys and die just to wipe us. I voted to kick him.) OR if they're offline for an extended period. If someone puts up a vote to kick, I'll say yes if it's a valid reason (i.e.: offline, crappy tank, jerk.).
I like having the option to kick people from a PUG, but people use it too often. I'm also glad that Blizzard put in the cap on how many times you can vote to kick. Reason being, people would kick and kick until they got what they wanted. Now you can only vote to kick once. It might be twice, but I'm not sure...I don't do it often enough to know.

I agree 100%. It's more fun that way, too! ^^

I'd agree with Sumi. The only reason I would kick someone would be if they were rude to other members of the group, or if their tactics were just unsafe (rushing into groups without waiting for mana, or not explaining tactics to certain fights and the like). Or, if they had been absent/disconnected for a long time.
The cap of only kicking someone once is a good thing, I think. It limits the amount of times "impatient" people can abuse the other members of their group. Of course, they could just leave the group...but that's something different.

It is always frustrating to me when the VOTE TO KICK thing repeatedly pops-up on my screen, usually because there are two members of the group who are at each other’s throats – acting like 12-year-olds (and perhaps they are). Meanwhile, the rest of us are whispering back and forth about how NOT-FUN this is.
In my experience, it is USUALLY the tank who tries to kick someone. We all seem to suck-it-up when the tank is bad…thinking perhaps it’s better gnash our teeth than to kick the tank and wait another 30 minutes for another tank.
Healers (which I am) are rarely kicked in my experience, unless completely useless, although they are often berated for NOT DOING OUR JOB (ie. Keeping everyone ALIVE no matter what) which is a whole different thread. I am no longer the shrinking-violet that I was before Cataclysm. It is required that DPS knows their CC strategy, and of course that the tank doesn’t pull a “Braveheart” and blatantly charge into enemy lines, for me to be able to do my job effectively now.
I think it comes down to courtesy, and effort in knowing your role.
Most PUGS are not comprised of elite raiders. We are there for fun and gear and experience and reputation. It is a bit ridiculous to me that a DPS might be kicked for not topping the “Recount” charts. I have played many DPS in my WOW career, and it sucks to wait FOREVER to enter a random dungeon, only to be kicked. There are only two reasons in my opinion that anyone should get kicked:
1. They are clearly not working with the team to effectively do their role. This has nothing to do with maxing their DPS, but everything to do with CC and strategy, and this includes a tank that knows how to lead and when to break for mana/cooldowns/etc. Any healer can heal through a longer fight (due to marginally lower DPS), but only if it is a SMART fight. The first step should always be ‘educating’ a player and making ‘recommendations’. <the disclaimer is that it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to speak-up if you don’t know a fight/boss. Most other players are more than happy to take the time to explain things rather than risk a wipe>
2. They D/C due to a poor connection and do not reconnect for a prolonged time. Players need to be given the benefit of the doubt that they disconnected by accident and are frantically working to reconnect. I have had tanks, healers and other DPS immediately vote to kick a DPS player that disconnects because it is so easy and immediate to get another in the random finder. That is bullsh*t! DPS wait too long already and it is unfair.
These new Cataclysm dungeons are a completely different breed than past dungeons, by design. Blizzard has written many a blue post on it. People need to realize it, and be patient with the learning curve.
Another recommendation is to (time allowing) learn to play a tank, DPS, and healer. You will have amuch better appreciation for the challenges of each if you do. Same goes for trying different classes (I have played them all) - you can appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of each.
Also, TANKSPOT has some great forum articles on the various roles in dungeons/raiding; understanding your healer, understanding your tank, your role as a DPS. They give great insight and I have had more than a few "REALLY?" moments when reading them.
Oh yes - If you wanna’ be an elite raider, and spam RECOUNT numbers throughout the dungeon…JOIN A RAIDING GUILD!

I'm a visual learner, so being able to listen and WATCH how a fight goes, or how to tank something, or when to use a certain ability really helps me. You don't have to be a raider to use this tool, that's for sure. But, yes. I agree with Calavel. He said what's in my brain, but with lots better words. lol
