Gwidion's life, as most within Azeroth, was quite different before the cataclysm took place.
Born, Geraldine Shell, in the city of Stormwind 20 years ago, he spent the first 17 years of his life as a human female. It wasn't until he was abducted by a demented scientist and forced to drink a transformation potion that his life as a male and a Blood Elf began.

Geraldine's life as a child was wonderful for the first 6 years. She was an only child of a cobbler who owned a shop in the Dwarven District of Stormwind. A true girly-girl, Geraldine rarely wore anything but dresses and was seldom seen without her dolls. Her father was a salt of the earth kind of fellow who worked hard and led a clean life. Her mother was a brilliant woman who served as a priestess of the Light at the cathedral in Stormwind. Shortly after her 6th birthday tragedy struck and both of Geraldine's parents were killed in a scourge attack on their way home from a party in Goldshire.
Things changed for the young girl when she was placed in an orphanage. She was hardened by life there. Gone was the unquestionable love of her parents and in its place was the conditional affection of the institution. Geraldine was a well behaved girl so she quickly learned to rules and followed them whenever she could but every night for her first year in the orphanage, she would cry herself to sleep. Soon however, she adapted to life without her parents. She never made any deep friendships as the children of the house rotated in and out so quickly. As such, Geraldine learned to rely on herself.
In her 12th year she found the Light and was accepted to the church as an apprentice. She was moved out of the orphanage and to the Abby in Northshire Valley. There she lived for the next five years studying the Light. It was during this time that she met a paladin recruit named Alison. The two were fast friends and together they were inseparable. While Geraldine was on track to become a priestess, she would often times practice marital skills with Alison as an excuse to spend time with her. One day, after such a practice session, the two reclined on the soft grass near one of the many brooks that run through the area. They spoke softly of growing up and what life would be like married. Geraldine commented that she didn't think she would ever be married in fact, she had never even been kissed. Alison was incredulous and insisted that they find someone for her to kiss immediately. A list of boys followed and after each Geraldine would wave her hand, scowl or guffaw. Alison was quiet for a long time and Geraldine had wondered if perhaps she had angered her friend by being so negative. She was about to apologize when Alison leaned across the space between them and lightly kissed Geraldine's lips. The world stopped and for a moment the loneliness that had lived inside they young priestess broke and Geraldine felt whole. When Alison broke the kiss Geraldine began to sob and then cry and before long she was balling. She couldn't stop the torrent of tears that flowed from a place so deep within her it was as if her soul was bleeding. When it was over and she uncurled from the fetal position, Alison was gone.
She never saw Alison again. Her friend had obviously misinterpreted Geraldine's reaction and was so embarrassed by it that she requested and was awarded a transfer that very day. Geraldine returned to her life at the abbey and on her 17th birthday, she got word from a mutual acquaintance that Alison had been assigned a guard post down at the docks in Stormwind City. It was on her trip to find her that Geraldine was abducted by the Defias Brotherhood and taken to The Doctor's lab.
Her experience there was horrific and when it was over she had been magically transformed into a Blood Elf male. His escape from that place and from his home city that was now filled with people who viewed him as an enemy is a tale better told another time. Suffice it to say the cataclysm struck while he was being held captive and he escaped.
There were only two things that kept him alive for a very long time. Two opposing things. His need for revenge and his love of the Light. During his month long trek north in the direction of Silverpine forest, the person known as Geraldine became a new person named Gwidion. His body developed and he reveled in his new strength. His mind quickly latched on to the fact that the Light had a plan for him. At first, he believed it was to find and murder The Doctor but before long he came to think it was something bigger. It was to find and murder people LIKE The Doctor.
The world directly following the cataclysm was a chaotic place and he had little trouble reaching Tauren Mill. From there he procured travel to Silvermoon where, in honor to Alison, Gwidon adopted the mantle of Paladin. He rose quickly within the ranks and after two years was assigned to the Crusade in Ice Crown.
Having served his year on the frozen tundra and having been awarded the exalted title of "Crusader", Gwidion travels the land living out what he feels is his purpose. To ferret out demented souls like The Doctor and cleanse the earth of the dark stain they leave behind.
